The majority of people direct their first steps towards the Polish Embassy whereas its role only consists in collecting applications and sending them to an appropriate office in Poland. The Embassy neither offers any particular legal assistance nor checks the applications with regard to formal requirements nor provides any advice if any additional difficulties arise. The procedure of confirming the citizenship of the Republic of Poland concerns people who left the Polish territory in 20th century and often lived in a conviction that they had lost it.
